DUNWOODY, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Being passionate about the environment has no age limit.
A Dunwoody 90-year-old is using her love of the outdoors to teach future generations to enjoy and protect nature.
“I guess, I was just brought up with the belief that volunteering was the rent you pay for being on the planet,” said Donna Burt.
The Dunwoody Nature Center stands in the forest. It exists to promote environmental literacy and the staff is passionate about that mission.
If you stop by, you might be lucky enough to see Burt. At 90, she is feisty and passionate about bringing her love of the outdoors alive for future generations. She has been volunteering at the center for 25 years.
“I don’t feel like I am 90. I don’t know how it is supposed to be because I still feel, well, sometimes I still feel like I am in my 30s or 40s until I try and do something that my body doesn’t want to do,” said Burt.
“I wish I had that energy today, let alone when I am 90,” said Madhav Dave with Dunwoody Nature Center.
Promoting environmental literacy means the organization works with people of all ages, trying to instill a love of the outdoors, a respect for the outdoors and an understanding of how to protect the outdoors.
“It is really up to us as a people to be stewards of it,” said Dave.
There is no an age limit to a love of the environment. You are only as old as your mindset, right?
“I have never felt old. I played competitive tennis until I was in my eighties,” said Burt.
