PARDUBICE (Czechia) – Greece have once again stamped its mark as a basketball powerhouse, securing qualification for FIBA EuroBasket 2025 and extending its impressive streak to 18 consecutive tournament appearances.
A testament to their consistency and rich basketball heritage, the Greek team continues to be a mainstay on the continental stage, blending tradition with the emergence of new talent to remain among Europe’s elite.
Hellas locked up their spot after beating Czechia for a second time in Group F of the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers. Now that they have qualified, the Greeks can look forward to fighting for a third continental title following triumphs in 1987 and 2005.

Vasileios Toliopoulos has been one of Greece’s main outside threats
Head coach Vassilis Spanoulis has shown just how much depth in leadership talent Greece have developed over the years with only two players – Vasileios Toliopoulos and Dimitris Moraitis – having played in all five games. The sharpshooter Toliopoulos averaged in double figures through the first two windows. EuroLeague stars Kostas Papanikolaou and Georgios Papagiannis have also shined in their appearances.
History
Greece’s qualification for FIBA EuroBasket 2025 marks their 29th overall appearance in the prestigious tournament, further cementing their legacy as one of Europe’s basketball stalwarts. They will be appearing in their 18th consecutive EuroBasket.
And Hellas has been a force on the continent since missing the tournament for the last time in 1985. They hoisted the trophy in 1987 and 2005 while finishing second in 1989 and took third in 2009. Greece have registered eight top four results since 1987.
