Omaha-area schools, businesses announce closures, delays for blizzard conditions

AND BASICALLY THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE DAY, ESPECIALLY THIS MORNING, WATCHING FOR THE POTENTIAL FOR 50 TO 60 MILE PER HOUR WIND GUSTS TO CONTINUE. SO WE STILL HAVE THAT HIGH WIND WARNING THAT IS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON. AND WITH THAT, NO LONGER IN A BLIZZARD WARNING, BUT A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY CONTINUES FOR FAR EASTERN NEBRASKA FOR THE POTENTIAL FOR BLOWING SNOW THAT GOES UNTIL 8 A.M., WITH BLIZZARD WARNINGS STILL CONTINUING. CARROLL DOWN THROUGH CRESTON, THE DES MOINES AREA, INTO CENTRAL IOWA, THE HEAVIEST SNOW BANDS OVER THE DES MOINES METRO RIGHT NOW. SO THE MORE WIDESPREAD BLIZZARD LIKE CONDITIONS FROM ADAIR TO DES MOINES THAT TRAVEL I-80 BETWEEN OMAHA AND DES MOINES THIS MORNING. IT IS VERY ROUGH. BUT HERE, WITHIN THE LAST HALF HOUR, 45 MINUTES AFTER WE SAW THE FALLING SNOW MOVE OUT, WE’VE SEEN A NARROW SNOW BAND DEVELOP RIGHT ALONG THE MISSOURI RIVER, MOVING INTO THE EAST SIDE OF THE OMAHA METRO FROM BLAIR FORT CALHOUN RIGHT THROUGH OMAHA, DOWN THROUGH RALSTON PAPILLION LA VISTA WHERE YOU SEE THESE DARKER BLUES AND GRAYS. WE COULD GET A BRIEF BLIZZARD LIKE CONDITIONS HERE AS WE GO THROUGH THE NEXT HALF HOUR OR 45 MINUTES, SO EXPECT VISIBILITY TO DROP AGAIN BECAUSE WE’RE STILL SEEING THAT WIND GUSTS 40 TO 60MPH. I MEAN, LOOK AT THIS CAMERA VIEW. THIS IS FROM THE FAIRFIELD INN. THIS IS I-680 JUST NEAR BLAIR HIGH ROAD. I MEAN, THE CAMERA IS SHAKING. YOU CAN SEE THAT SNOW BLOWING ACROSS THE INTERSTATE THERE. SO AGAIN, IT IS ROUGH GOING OUT HERE RIGHT NOW WITH THAT SNOW BAND MOVING THROUGH TEMPERATURES IN THE 20S WELL BELOW FREEZING. ANYTHING THAT WAS SLUSHY LIKELY FROZEN OVER IF IT’S NOT TREATED. BUT YOU CAN SEE THE FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES IN THE SINGLE DIGITS IN MOST SPOTS BECAUSE THAT WIND GUSTING 40 TO 60MPH AT LAST. UPDATE EPPLEY 46MPH NEAR 60 AT THE LINCOLN AIRPORT. SO EVEN WHERE THE SNOW IS DONE FALLING, STILL COULD GET BRIEF REDUCTIONS IN VISIBILITY LIKE WE’RE SEEING HERE IN COLUMBUS. LESS THAN TWO MILES BEATRICE LESS THAN TWO MILES BECAUSE WE HAVE POSSIBLE GROUND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WITH THAT BLOWING SNOW AND THAT EXTREME WIND WHERE THE SNOW IS FALLING, WE’RE SEEING THE VISIBILITY DROP AGAIN AT EPPLEY DOWN TO TWO MILES. HALF MILE VISIBILITY IN DENISON, ZERO VISIBILITY. LAST REPORT IN CARROLL, IOWA. SO AGAIN, MORE BLIZZARD LIKE CONDITIONS. CARROLL ATLANTIC TOWARD THE DES MOINES AREA WHERE WE’RE SEEING MOST OF THAT SNOW RIGHT NOW. BUT THE WIND NOT GOING TO LET UP REALLY AT ALL THROUGH THE DAY TODAY AND ESPECIALLY THIS MORNING. STILL EXPECT THOSE WIND GUSTS BETWEEN 50 AND 60MPH AND THEN THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AROUND 40MPH. AND THEN EVENTUALLY AS WE GET CLOSER TO SUNSET, CLOSER TO 30MPH. AND THEN OVERNIGHT TONIGHT, WE’LL FINALLY SEE THE WIND CALM DOWN. SO STORM PREDICTOR HERE THIS MORNING BY 7:00 AGAIN, THAT BAND THAT’S OVER US SHOULD BE PUSHING OUT. STILL COULD SEE SOME LINGERING SNOW FALLING WITH STILL AGAIN POTENTIAL BLIZZARD CONDITIONS INTO CENTRAL IOWA. CLOUDS WILL BE CLEARING OUT TO THE WEST, STARTING TO MOVE OUT TO THE EAST AS WE PROGRESS THROUGH THE REST OF THE MORNING. SO EXPECT MORE SUNSHINE AS THE DAY GOES ON. BUT AGAIN, WITH THAT WIND KEEPING UP THE BLOWING SNOW POTENTIAL STILL THERE, ESPECIALLY THROUGH THE MORNING, BUT STILL COULD LINGER INTO THE AFTERNOON. TEMPERATURES LIKELY LOW TO MID 30S FOR MOST, AND WE COULD BE PUSHING CLOSER TO 40 OUT WEST OF YORK LINCOLN DOWN TOWARD BEATRICE, WHERE THERE’S A LITTLE LESS SNOW COVER ON THE GROUND. NOW. QUIET, CALM OVERNIGHT. I’M TALKING WIND AROUND FIVE MILES PER HOUR. WE’LL TAKE THAT. GOING TO BE A COOLER START ON THURSDAY. WE’LL SEE. CLOUD COVER INCREASE, TEMPERATURES ABOVE FREEZING, SO SHOULD MELT SOME OF THAT SNOW, BUT COULD SEE A FEW SPOTTY SHOWERS AS WE GO THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. BUT THEN WE’LL BE WATCHING FOR THURSDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY FRIDAY MORNING WITH TEMPERATURES HOVERING AROUND. THE FREEZING MARK COULD GET A RAIN SNOW MIX CHANGING OVER TO LIGHT SNOW AS WE GO THROUGH THE MORNING ON FRIDAY, SO IT COULD BE ANOTHER IMPACTFUL MORNING DRIVE FRIDAY WHERE WE COULD SEE 1 TO 3IN AROUND AND NORTH OF THE I-80 CORRIDOR WITH MAYBE JUST A DUSTING OFF TO THE SOUTH. SO ANOTHER QUICK HIT OF SNOW ON THE WAY BEFORE THE WEEK IS THROUGH. SO WE’VE GOT THE SEVERE ICON IN FOR THAT HIGH WIND WARNING. THE BLOWING SNOW POTENTIAL CONTINUING HERE TODAY THAT ANOTHER SHOT OF SNOW ON FRIDAY. AND THEN WELL WE SPRING FORWARD THIS WEEKEND. AND HOW ABOUT WE JUMP TO SPRING BECAUSE THE SUN SHINES BACK AND THEN WE’RE TALKING TEMPERATURES UPPER 60S, FLIRTING WITH 70 DEGREES NEXT WEEK. BUT IT’S STILL GOING TO BE REALLY ROUGH GOING HERE THIS MORNING WITH THAT WIND. JUST INCREDIBLY 40 TO 60MPH. AND STILL HERE, ESPECIALLY THROUGH THE NEXT HALF HOUR IN THE OMAHA METRO WITH THAT OTHER SN
