WHITEHOUSE, Ohio (WTVG) – Officials with the Whitehouse Fire Department say there is no threat to drinking water after an oil spill near Swan Creek Thursday.

Crews with the Whitehouse and Waterville fire departments were sent to Finzel Road near Rupp Road Thursday afternoon for a report of an oil-based sheen in Swan Creek. When crews arrived, they found the source of an oil spill near the 10000 block of Waterville Street.

Officials put containment measures in place to keep the oil in the Wabash Cannonball Trail ditch where it was coming from.

According to a press release from the Whitehouse Fire Department, it is unknown how the spill happened or how much spilled.

The press release said there may be times where the walking trail is closed for ground water cleanup.
