Vietnam Extends Visa-Free Access for 12 Nations Until 2028, Introduces New Exemptions for Swiss, Czech, and Polish Travelers
In a move aimed at strengthening its appeal as a global travel destination, Vietnam has extended its unilateral visa waiver for citizens of 12 countries until 2028. This decision aligns with the nation’s broader strategy to stimulate tourism and enhance international economic relations.
12 Countries Benefit from Extended Visa Waiver Until 2028
Vietnam has officially renewed its visa-free entry policy for citizens of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. However, Belarus, which was previously part of this program, is no longer included in the extension.
This renewed visa exemption, effective from March 15, 2025, through March 14, 2028, allows eligible travelers to visit Vietnam for up to 45 days without requiring a visa. The policy update was formalized through Resolution No. 44/NQ-CP, signed on March 7, 2025, replacing the current waiver set to expire on March 15, 2025.
Vietnam’s decision to extend visa-free access underscores its commitment to fostering tourism growth and facilitating international travel. Since reopening its borders post-pandemic, the country has actively pursued policies aimed at streamlining entry procedures and boosting visitor numbers.
Temporary Visa-Free Entry for Swiss, Czech, and Polish Travelers
In addition to renewing its visa waiver for 12 countries, Vietnam has introduced a temporary visa exemption for citizens of Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and Poland.
This new exemption, effective from March 1, 2025, grants travelers from these three European nations visa-free entry for stays of up to 45 days, exclusively for tourism purposes. The exemption is set to expire on December 31, 2025, reflecting Vietnam’s willingness to explore new travel partnerships with key European markets.
While this initiative is temporary, it signals Vietnam’s openness to expanding its tourism sector and fostering stronger economic ties with these countries.
Strengthening Global Ties Through Open-Door Policies
Beyond boosting tourism, these visa policies reflect Vietnam’s broader vision of strengthening international cooperation. By easing entry restrictions, the government aims to promote business partnerships, foreign investments, and cultural exchange with participating nations.
All travelers—regardless of visa status—must adhere to Vietnam’s entry requirements, ensuring a seamless and compliant visit, whether for tourism, business, or family purposes.
Simultaneously, Vietnam continues to enhance its e-Visa system, allowing travelers from various countries to apply online for single or multiple-entry visas valid for up to 90 days. This initiative complements the country’s efforts to modernize its travel infrastructure and attract a diverse range of visitors.
Vietnam’s Ambitious Vision for Tourism Growth
With a target of welcoming 23 million international visitors by 2025, Vietnam is implementing progressive reforms to make travel more convenient and accessible. The extension of visa waivers and the expansion of the e-Visa program are part of a broader strategy to solidify its position as a premier travel destination in Southeast Asia.
By simplifying entry processes and offering longer visa-free stays, Vietnam is sending a clear message to global travelers: the country is open, welcoming, and ready to offer an unforgettable experience enriched with breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality.
