AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Amarillo Public Health child passenger safety team has received a national award for their Safe Kids/Healthy Amarillo Women program.
The team received the National Child Passenger Safety Team of the Year in recognition of their impact in promoting the wellbeing of mothers, infants and children in the Panhandle.
Safe Kids/Healthy Amarillo Women assisted in the installation of their 1,000th car seat since November of 2022.
The team is led by Program Manager Cindi Wynia, Health Educator Planner Barbara Solano-Haile and Safe Kids Specialist Ashley Halsted.
The award was presented by the National Child Passenger Safety Board.
Wynia says she estimates that Safe Kids/Healthy Amarillo Women participates in over 40 outreach events each year, including visits to local hospitals to teach families car seat education so they can take newborns home from the hospital safely.
The Safe Kids/Healthy Amarillo Women organization is grant funded, with funds being used to create and distribute child passenger safety education materials at police and fire departments, courthouses, clinics and more.
