Following the completion of the construction of the Macedonia-Greece border crossing “Markova Noga”, for which the cornerstone was laid today, citizens from both sides of the border will intensify cultural exchanges, economic and tourist cooperation, emphasized the participants in today’s ceremony, held on the shores of Lake Prespa.

Today is a special day for Prespa, emphasized Prime Minister Hristian Mickoski, because, as he said, this border crossing is just another step towards connecting the two Prespas on one and the other side of the border.

“Such examples are positive for both countries. In that direction, we must continue to build relations, to connect because only in that way can we be seen by the bigger countries,” Mickoski emphasized, while asked if he has changed his opinion on the Prespa Agreement, the Prime Minister emphasized that he has never changed his opinion and added that he still holds the same position to this day.

The laying of the cornerstone at the “Markova Noga” border crossing was also highlighted by the EU Ambassador to the country, Mihalis Rokas, as an extraordinary event and a new era.

“Today is a historic day in your country. The EU vision for the Prespa region is the vision of the citizens on the three sides of Prespa. The most important thing is to have a vision that will be focused by the people for the people, and also a vision that will focus on the exchange of experiences from the three sides of the border, there will be economic development, economic sustainability, as well as the preservation of Lake Prespa, which is not only the natural heritage of the Prespa region, but is also considered a European heritage,” emphasized the EU Ambassador to the country, Rokas.

The border crossing is expected to open in 2028.

The opening of this border crossing is expected to open up space for economic, touristic cooperation and cultural exchange between the two countries. The reopening of the border crossing was announced with the signing of the Prespa Agreement in 2018.
