Vergennes Planning and Environment Linkages Study to host a final open house

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT), in partnership with the Addison County Regional Planning Commission (ACRPC), has concluded the Vergennes Planning and Environment Linkages (PEL) Study and will hold a final in-person open house for the public to learn more about the resulting transportation alternatives that are being recommended. 

WHEN: Wednesday, April 2, 2025, 3-7 p.m.

PROJECT DETAILS:      

Since Fall 2021, the Vergennes PEL Study has been developing and evaluating potential transportation alternatives that would reduce the impact of large truck traffic on Vermont Route 22A and Downtown Vergennes to enhance the quality of life and economic vitality in Vergennes and the surrounding towns. These transportation alternatives were devised and revised based on past studies, extensive public feedback, quantitative and qualitative analysis, input from Coordinating Agencies, and guidance from the Technical and Policy Committees.

The Vergennes PEL Study Policy Committee has recommended the advancement of three alternatives for future evaluation: (1) the Pink Alternative, which would be a new road, (2) the Blue Alternative, which would be a different new road, and (3) the Purple Alternative, an existing roadway that would include upgrades to VT 17 before US 7 for northbound traffic and VT 22A for southbound traffic.

The purpose of the public open house is to share the policy committee recommendation with the public. The study team will also be available to answer any questions about the study process including project milestones, major decision points, and the culmination of the study recommendations.
