Over 9,000 staff and 105 helicopters were deployed to quell fires engulfing mainly southeastern regions of South Korea, damaging residential buildings and a temple, authorities said.
More than 1,500 residents took shelter as the fires wiped out around 6,328 hectares of forests, Acting President Choi Sang-mok said. Officials also said several people had been injured.
Three of the four people reported dead were firefighters while one was a public servant, according to the Yonhap news agency.
