Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has said that Greece is not prepared to participate in a coalition of countries sending troops to Ukraine.

“Greece is not among the countries ready to send troops to Ukraine as part of a ‘coalition of the willing’,” Mitsotakis said in a statement after the EU leaders’ summit on Ukraine in Paris, adding that this discussion might be “somewhat divisive” as it distracts from the primary goal of ending the war as soon as possible through an initial ceasefire.

Mitsotakis emphasized that all participating countries agreed on the urgency of reaching a ceasefire.

“Ukraine has, in principle, accepted a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, which, unfortunately, Russia has not yet accepted,” he said.

“All pressure at this moment must be exerted on Russia to prevent further military attacks against Ukraine, particularly against critical infrastructure, so that we can achieve this initial ceasefire,” he added.

Regarding security guarantees, Mitsotakis said that the strongest guarantee is the reinforcement of Ukraine’s armed forces.
