Eleven Members of Parliament from the governing New Democracy (ND) conservative party have submitted a parliamentary question directed at seven government ministers, addressing what they describe as “aggressive” real estate and business acquisitions by Turkish buyers in border regions of northeastern Greece.

The question highlights the involvement of “Turkish capital,” allegedly hidden behind companies registered in Greece or other European nations. The MPs specifically flagged purchases in the Evros prefecture, located in the Thrace region near the border with European Turkey.

In their inquiry, the deputies seek clarification on “what steps the government plans to take to counter the potential for aggressive and targeted purchases of properties or businesses by foreign entities in nationally sensitive areas, such as Thrace and the Aegean islands.” They also asked who oversees foreign-based bad loan funds and to whom these entities sell auctioned properties in border regions.
