Greece and US officials discuss Chevron’s interest in offshore hydrocarbon exploration blocks

The Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA) believes there are at least nine locations with strong potential for commercially viable deposits in the area south of Crete that Chevron is seeking to explore.

Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou spoke by phone with US Secretary of the Interior and Chairman of the National Energy Dominance Council Doug Burgum on Sunday afternoon to discuss Chevron’s interest in Greek offshore hydrocarbon exploration blocks.

Their discussion focused on recent energy developments, particularly Greece’s approval of US energy giant Chevron’s interest in the South Crete marine plots.

Both sides agreed that this marks a significant step forward in strengthening the already close bilateral relations between Greece and the United States.

The National Energy Dominance Council advises the US President on energy policy strategies. It is expected to present a national energy sovereignty plan aimed at reducing bureaucracy, attracting private sector investment, and fostering innovation.
