Bruce Campbell could be playing the devil in “Invincible.” That’s the fan theory at least. The “Evil Dead” icon voices a demonic character at the very end of the season 3 finale of “Invincible” but he is only credited as “demon.” With fans eager to find out if he’s more than just a run-of-the-mill demon, ScreenRant asked “Invincible” showrunner Simon Racioppa about it, and got an interesting response.

“I think you’ll have to wait and see,” Racioppa answered. “Bruce is incredible, though. He’s great. You’re going to love it. You’re going to love it, but I can’t tell you that.”

Damien Darkblood (Clancy Brown) returns in the Season 3 finale and summons a small demon who, in spite of its size, could very well be the devil. Darkblood refers to him as “lord” and about finding a powerful vessel that could restore the small demon’s power. So all signs seem to be pointing to this tiny demon being at least a bigwig in the halls of Hell, if not the devil himself.

Invincible’s upcoming battle with the devil is something that actually never happened in the comics, but was a story that “Invincible” creator Robert Kirkman wanted to tell. Racioppa talked about how Kirkman’s involvement with the show led to the story finally happening.

“Robert is a huge part of the show, and in a lot of cases, there are beats in the show that come about after talking to him. He’ll say, ‘I never got a chance to do this in the books, but I always thought that character’s backstory was this and this and this.’ And we’re like, ‘That’s great. Let’s put that in the show now.’ So, a lot of that stuff comes from Robert. He has headcanons – I mean, it is canon because it’s him – of other things that never made it on the page. The Hell story is an example of him being like, ‘There was this story I always wanted to do for ‘Invincible,’ but I kind of lost track of it. I never got a chance to do it, and things moved on, and then I couldn’t go back and do it.’ Why not do it on the show now? That’s a great example of that. [Comic fans] are getting a lost issue.”

The first three seasons of “Invincible” are streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Season 4 is expected to stream sometime next year.
