The Presidency has a bad relationship with Hekuran Murati for the removal of tariffs
The Kosovo Presidency has reacted harshly to the statements of Acting Minister of Finance Hekuran Murati regarding President Vjosa Osmani’s request to lift the tariff on US products, after the latter imposed a 10 percent tariff.
In a reaction on Facebook, Bekim Kupina from the Presidency said that “Hekuran Murati is the last person in this country who can talk to us seriously.”
“A man who still has not understood that leading the state is a 24/7 job, not one that ends at 16:00 PM, a man who still does not understand that according to the Constitution and the commentators of the Constitution, foreign policy objectives are determined by the institution of the Presidency, who does not understand that these things are not simply economic actions, but strategic actions in relation to our strategic and existential ally, a man who thinks that with insults and offenses he can achieve something in the interest of Kosovo, after a well-studied institutional letter that the President addressed to the Prime Minister based on the rules of state communication, courtesy and inter-institutional respect,” Kupina wrote, reports KosovaPress.
Kupina did not stop there, calling Murat’s statements shameful, scandalous, a lack of institutional respect and a lack of basic knowledge about how the state is governed, and “his statement today is accompanied by a lack of minimal willingness to work and cooperate in the interest of Kosovo.”
“Remove the unreasonable tariffs against our main ally, stop the shameful and childish statements,” Kupina ordered acting minister Hekuran Murat.
Recall, Hekuran Murati’s reaction came after Vjosa Osmani requested that the government remove the 10 percent tariff on US products. Murati said that he had only learned about the head of state’s request from the media.
He even said that they have already discussed this issue and that “whenever a decision is made, we will definitely inform you in a timely manner.”
President Osmani today asked the government to suspend tariffs on American products, saying that doing so would open new opportunities for job creation, technology exchange, and long-term economic growth.
“More than an economic move, this is a foreign policy objective, reaffirming our enduring commitment to the Kosovo-US alliance, built on shared values of freedom and decades of unwavering support,” she wrote in X.
Meanwhile, Republican congressmen Carlos Gimenez and Keith Self have praised Osmani’s request to remove tariffs on imports of US products, emphasizing that Europe should follow Kosovo’s example.
US President Donald Trump on April 2 signed a decision to impose 10% tariffs on almost two hundred countries around the world, including Kosovo and Albania.
