OEAK supports Osman’s call for the removal of tariffs on American goods
The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo reiterates its call for the Government of Kosovo to adopt a unilateral preferential trade arrangement with the United States of America, eliminating customs tariffs on American products. KosovaPress.
The American Chamber also welcomes and strongly supports the statement by the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, who echoed our call, calling for the suspension of all tariffs on American goods.
“This call emphasizes the strategic importance of deepening economic ties with the United States. As stated in yesterday’s statement by the American Chamber, such an action would be an important, forward-looking step that demonstrates Kosovo’s commitment to free and fair trade, while also positioning Kosovo towards a stronger trading relationship and possible consideration of a Free Trade Agreement in the future. The long-standing partnership with the United States – as Kosovo’s most important strategic ally – must be translated into bold decisions at the right political moments,” the OEAK statement said, reports KosovaPress.
It further states that the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo believes that initiatives aimed at advancing US-Kosovo relations, especially those based on sound economic arguments and shared values, should not become the subject of internal political controversies.
Also, according to OEAK, it is said that on the contrary, they require unity and rapid institutional action, therefore we call on the Government to focus on policies that strengthen global partnerships and the economic future of Kosovo.

President Vjosa Osmani yesterday requested the Kosovo Government to suspend import tariffs on all products from the US, after the latter imposed a 10 percent tariff.
Osmani, in a post on X, said that this request is made to send the message that Kosovo is ready for stronger relations with the US, reports KosovaPress.
Acting Minister of Finance Hekuran Murati has reacted sharply to the request of the head of state Vjosa Osmani to remove the 10 percent tariff on US products, after the latter imposed the 10 percent tariff.
He said that they have already been considering this topic and whenever a decision is made, “we will definitely inform you in time,” reports KosovaPress.
US President Donald Trump has announced tariffs on almost two hundred countries worldwide, which will take effect on April 5 and 9 at midnight US time. Among the countries that the US has imposed tariffs on are Kosovo and Albania, each with 10 percent.
During 2024, according to Kosovo Customs statistics, the country recorded exports to the US of over 39 million, 176 thousand, 701 euros, while in the first three months of 2025 the export value was 5 million, 759 thousand, 490 euros.
