Severe weather forecast for northern Greece starting Sunday

    Heavy rain, thunderstorms and a sharp drop in temperatures are expected in northern and northeastern Greece starting Sunday afternoon, according to the National Meteorological Service.

    Storms will first hit eastern Macedonia and Thrace before moving to the northeastern Aegean, including the island of Limnos, by nightfall. Snow is forecast in mountainous areas and could reach semi-mountainous regions overnight into Monday.

    Northern parts of the country will experience the most dramatic temperature changes, while elsewhere mild conditions will persist during the day with highs reaching 20 to 21 degrees Celsius in parts of the mainland..

    Western and southern Greece, as well as island regions, will see increasing cloud cover and scattered rain, with isolated storms mainly in Crete. Winds will shift from southern and western directions to strong northerlies, reaching up to 7 Beaufort in northern seas.

    In Attica, weather will remain mostly clear with a few passing clouds. Winds will blow from the west at 3 to 5 Beaufort, and temperatures will range from 8 to 19 degrees Celsius.
