Areas such as Hortiatis, Asvestochori, Panorama, Filyro, Pefka, Sykies, Meteora, Oreokastro, Melissochori, and Lagyna have been transformed into a winter wonderland since the early morning hours.
Due to the adverse weather conditions, schools in several municipalities will remain closed on Monday, April 7. Mayors of Florina, Prespes, and Amyntaio have decided to suspend classes to ensure the safety of students and staff. In the Florina regional unit, vehicles are required to use snow chains due to significant snow accumulation, particularly in Prespes and Amyntaio.
The snowfall spread to Kastoria late Sunday night, prompting the civil protection agency to mobilize efforts to keep the road network accessible. According to an updated Emergency Weather Bulletin issued by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), the weather is expected to worsen starting Sunday afternoon, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, a sharp drop in temperatures, and dense snowfalls primarily in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of Macedonia and Thrace. The cold front will begin in northern Greece and gradually move south.

– Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms: Expected on Monday morning until midday in the eastern Aegean islands, eastern Thessaly, the Sporades, and northern Evia.
– Dense Snowfalls: From Sunday night into Monday midday in the mountains and semi-mountainous areas (above 400 metres) of Thrace and Macedonia, including parts of Evros and some lowland areas. Snow is also forecast for Monday morning in the mountains of Epirus and Thessaly.
– Temperature Drop: A noticeable decline began on Sunday afternoon in Macedonia and Thrace, extending to central and southern Greece by Monday and Tuesday. Frost is expected in northern Greece on Monday night, with freezing conditions spreading to inland areas of mainland Greece during the mornings and evenings of Tuesday and Wednesday, and into Thursday morning.
