The Spanish government brushed aside US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s warning that seeking tighter ties with China as a way of dealing with the tariff rift would be “cutting your own throat.”
“Not only do we intend to achieve a negotiated solution with the US, but also defend the interests of the EU and European countries,” Spanish Agriculture Minister Luis Planas said in Vietnam on Wednesday. “It’s totally legitimate,” he said. “We have excellent trade relations with China. We obviously intend not only to carry on but also increase” them.
