Following concerns raised regarding meat imported from Brazil, especially after a case of salmonella was identified in Albania, the Food and Veterinary Agency (AVA) has clarified the situation and guaranteed food safety in the country.

The spokesperson for the FVA, Lamir Thaçi, stated that Kosovo is among the countries that imports the least meat from Brazil, emphasizing that although this country is the largest global exporter of meat, the amount that comes to Kosovo is minimal.

“Brazil is the world’s leading giant in the export of meat of all types. However, Kosovo is one of the countries that receives the least amount of meat from there. The negative perception towards Brazilian meat has been created due to rare incidents, but the reality and official data speak differently,” Thaçi emphasized on KTV’s “60 Minutes”.

He added that every product released to the market goes through rigorous border controls, demonstrating professionalism and commitment to food safety.

“The food sector is sensitive and such incidents can happen from time to time, but in Kosovo we have not had many such cases,” concluded Thaçi.

According to the FVA, domestic poultry production in Kosovo is very small, which means that a large part is provided through imports. However, the egg sector remains among the most developed and covers the demands of the domestic market.
