Brazil, Chile pavilions open three days after Osaka Expo kicks off Brazil and Chile opened their pavilions on Wednesday, three days after the 2025 World Expo in Osaka kicked off. The two pavilions were unable to open on the first day due to delays in preparations.

Brazil’s pavilion features objects in the shape of humans and animals made of plastic bags and other materials. Visitors are given free capes, or Parangoles, which have combined the designs of traditional Japanese and Brazilian clothing.

An elementary school student from Sakai City in Osaka Prefecture wearing an orange Parangole said that she finds its motif pretty and stylish. She added that wearing it makes her feel like she is dancing.

The main attraction of Chile’s pavilion is a textile installation, with a colorful tapestry covering a wooden object 13 meters long. The textile was made by about 200 indigenous women who dyed and wove wool using a traditional method. It bears geometric patterns of flowers and space, used by indigenous people.

A representative from the Chilean government said that all the staff are very happy about the opening of the pavilion as it took over a year to bring the textile to Japan. They also expressed hope that visitors will learn about Chile’s culture, heritage and people.
