Haradinaj declares before the constitutive session resumes

The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, said that he has not communicated with the Social Democratic Initiative, but according to him, “the Democratic Party of Kosovo and other colleagues” have done so.

Haradinaj said he hopes that “the issue of resignations will be resolved” while emphasizing that AAK is interested in the constitution of the Assembly. But he said that they cannot vote for “legal violations.”

“It is good that the legal deadlines have been respected, 48 hours of continuation. I hope that the issue of resignations will be resolved and we will be able to continue. As an alliance, we support the constitution of the assembly, but we dare not vote for legal violations,” Haradinaj said on Thursday, April 17, shortly before the constitutive session resumed.

The elected deputies failed on April 15 to approve the report of the Temporary Committee for the Verification of Mandates and Quorum.

The parties that were previously in opposition demanded that the incumbent government formally resign. However, the Social Democratic Initiative voted for the report.

During the session, Albin Kurti’s letter informing the Speaker of the Parliament that he had resigned was published. It stated that the government was resigning from the day its mandate ended – March 23.

PDK, LDK, and AAK recalled the Law on Government and emphasized that resignations must be submitted one day before the certification of the election results.

Haradinaj expressed that they are interested in the constitution of the assembly, since that is when the legal deadline for forming the government begins.

“If he had a majority, he could vote for the illegal one. Not having a majority, this is a situation, I don’t know how it will turn out further. We have said before that we are interested in the constitution of the Assembly because that is how the legal deadline for forming a government begins. And we are interested in supporting the formation of a government by the opposition after the failure. I have not had any communication with Nisman since then, since the interview. I am aware that the PDK has had communication, as have other colleagues,” said Haradinaj.

He also revealed whether MP Adem Hoxha has joined the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.

“No to AAK, we have a lack of MPs in the GP, I have invited all MPs who are without a group to join us if they consider it. Ademi has expressed interest and others can join him”, he said.

The elected deputies will gather again today, April 17, to continue the constitutive session.

The chairman of the session, Avni Dehari, sent a letter to the president on April 16, asking for suggestions for further action. The president recalled the rules of the Assembly and said that the session should continue within 48 hours.

The swearing-in of the deputies would pave the way for the vote on the speaker of parliament and then the new government.

So far, the LVV, as the winning party, has not announced the name it will propose for Speaker of the Assembly, nor whether it has the numbers to vote for him.
