MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont’s dairy industry has a $5.4 billion impact on the state economy, according to a new report.

The Vermont Agency of Agriculture says the Vermont Dairy Delivers report shows that the industry has grown from $2.6 billion a decade ago.

Officials say the numbers reflect that Americans’ appetite for dairy products has increased and that the trend is reflected in Vermont’s dairy economy. Cheese is the biggest product. Overall, dairy products, including milk and ice cream, generated more than $2.6 billion in sales in 2024.

This comes as there are about 50 percent fewer dairy farms compared to 2013.

The report was commissioned by the Vermont Dairy Promotion Council.
