ndonesia and the United States have begun negotiations in Washington DC, to reduce import tariffs threatened by US President Donald Trump, revealing vast offers that Jakarta has in hand to woo the world’s largest economy.

Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto said both sides had agreed that the negotiations, set to complete within 60 days, would include investment and trade partnerships, critical minerals and the development of a reliable supply chain corridor.

“The plan will be followed up through one to three rounds of meetings and we hope it will result in an agreed deal format within the 60-day timeline,” Airlangga said during a virtual press conference on Friday.

Jakarta has sent a high-level delegation to Washington this week to kick off the tariff talks aimed at reducing a 32 percent tariff placed on Indonesian goods as part of President Trump’s latest round of global tariff measures that have shocked the world economy.

Airlangga is leading the Indonesian delegation, which includes Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Foreign Minister Sugiono, National Economic Council Deputy Head Mari Elka Pangestu and First Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Djiwandono.

Airlangga met and had talks with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, describing the conversations as “warm, fluid and constructive.”
