INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Ever watched a play where the actors forget their lines? What about the set breaking down forcing stagehands to rush onstage? All the mistakes and mishaps are intentional at the Indiana Repertory Theatre with the comedy “The Play That Goes Wrong.”

The production features a mix of local and national actors, including Rob Johanson, a familiar face at IRT known for his role as Scrooge in “A Christmas Carol.”

Director of Inclusion and Community Partnerships at the IRT, Devin Ginn, emphasized the play’s ability to uplift audiences through humor, saying it’s full of intentional mishaps and slapstick comedy. Cara Hinn, associate artistic director, highlighted the play’s appeal to both family and adult audiences, with sold-out student matinees showing its popularity among younger viewers.

The play’s cast includes a combination of local favorites and actors from New York and Chicago, creating a dynamic ensemble that brings the farcical comedy to life.

Performances run until May 11, with evening shows on weekdays and two shows on weekends. As the season closer for IRT’s 53rd season, ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ sets the stage for the upcoming season, which will open with ‘The 39 Steps,’ another comedic production.
