The NZX 50 climbed 97 points or 0.8% to 11,934 in early deals on Wednesday, partly recovering from an over 2% slump in the prior session.

The upturn followed a rally on Wall Street Tuesday after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that he expects de-escalation in the ongoing tariff standoff between the US and China in the “very near future”.

Strong trade performance in New Zealand during March also bolstered market sentiment, as export growth outpaced imports, leading to a double surplus compared to the previous year.
