Austria’s most important rail corridor, the Western Line between Vienna and St. Pölten, is facing its second major shutdown in less than a year. This time not because of floods, but to finish recovering from them. From 12 May to 5 June 2025, ÖBB will halt all traffic on the new section of the line, including the Lainzer Tunnel, to carry out permanent repair and flood-resilience works triggered by the extreme weather of autumn 2024.
