The SMU Mustangs fought off some major SEC programs to secure a key recruiting win on Sunday.

Head coach Rhett Lashlee and Co. made the ACC championship game in 2024, their first season in the conference, before securing the program’s first College Football Playoff berth.

SMU has posted two consecutive 11-3 seasons under Lashlee, and the promising trajectory of the program appears to be leading to more victories on the recruiting trail.

Class of 2026 four-star wide receiver Aljour Miles II committed to the Mustangs on Sunday after seriously considering in-state powers like Texas and Texas A&M with Oklahoma also in the mix.

Miles (6-foo-3, 198 pounds) hauled in 60 passes for 1,114 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior last season at Kaufman (Texas) High School.

He is rated as the No. 23 wideout, the No. 24 player in the state and the No. 182 overall player in his class, per On3.

SMU offered Miles a scholarship in June of last year and kept pushing for the talented receiver as Texas A&M and Texas entered the picture with offers of their own this spring.

Miles visited the Mustangs over the weekend before announcing his commitment. He previously took an official visit to Oklahoma State and an unofficial trip to Texas A&M in April.

It remains to be seen if Miles will keep his official visit schedule as is after pledging to SMU. That slate includes trips to Kansas (May 30), Texas Tech (June 6, 13), USC (June 13) and Oklahoma (June 30).
