Kyle Alessandro, the Norwegian representative for Eurovision 2025, had to undergo emergency wisdom tooth surgery in Basel.

Mads Tørklep, Head of Delegation for Norway, explained that Kyle was in pain but was able to complete his first rehearsal after taking painkillers.

“He was barely able to open his mouth early today and took strong painkillers to be able to complete the rehearsal.”

Right after the rehearsal was finished, Kyle was rushed to a dentist, who determined that there was a severe infection in the gum tissue. The dentist decided that the wisdom tooth would have to be removed immediately.

Kyle says the pain started on Monday.

“I didn’t think much of it and thought it would probably go away after a few days, but since then the pain had only gotten worse and worse, until today. We started the day with the first rehearsal in the arena, and it went extremely well.

After the rehearsal, I started to have quite a lot of pain again, so we had an emergency appointment at the dentist, which resulted in the wisdom tooth being removed. The dentist said that I need to rest until Wednesday, and then it was all be better.”

Kyle Alessandro was told by the dentist to rest and avoid physical activity for the next few days. He also cannot sing. Because of this, the Norwegian delegation’s schedule has been put on hold for the next few days. Kyle was supposed to spend most of Monday rehearsing and have three hours of interviews with international press on Monday and Tuesday. All of this has now been cancelled.

    Mads Tørklep explained:

“We have to look at what we do. You often get into bad shape when you have a wisdom tooth removed, so it becomes difficult for us to carry out the planned activities. We just have to see it through until he is fit and ready to sing again.”

The rest of the team will rehearse the performance without Kyle in their own time. Norway’s next rehearsal in the arena will take place on Wednesday.

Kyle Alessandro was selected to represent Norway in Basel after winning Melodi Grand Prix 2025. He will perform “Lighter” in slot number 8 in the first semi-final on May 13.

We had the chance to speak to Kyle at the Melfest Wknd Party in Stockholm in March. You can watch the interview here:

The country has the dubious record of finishing last the most times, twelve in total, and have received nul points four times. Norway last won the contest in 2009 when Alexander Rybak broke all records with his song “Fairytale”. He scored 387 points in the final, receiving 16 sets of 12 points and scoring points from every country.
