The Hellenic Presidential Guard, known as the Evzones, made a formal visit to the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney as part of their Anzac Day commemorative tour in Australia.
The Evzones were warmly welcomed at the Consulate’s Martin Place offices by staff on behalf of Consul General Ioannis Mallikourtis. The Consulate shared their enthusiasm in a statement:
“It was with great pleasure that we welcomed today, at the premises of the Consulate General of Greece, Sydney, members of the 🇬🇷 Presidential Guard, the iconic Evzones, currently in town for the commemorations surrounding Anzac Day.”
Evzones Honour Anzac Day at Consulate General of Greece in Sydney
This visit highlighted the deep cultural, historical, and diplomatic bonds between Greece and Australia. The Evzones, symbols of honor and discipline, have captivated audiences at various Sydney events, including Anzac Day ceremonies and official receptions.
The Consulate expressed gratitude for hosting the Evzones, whose Australian visit—coordinated with the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence and Greek-Australian community groups—also includes stops in Adelaide. Their presence strengthens ties between the Greek diaspora and their homeland, especially during Anzac Day, a time to reflect on shared histories of sacrifice and service.
