Four current and former U.S. officials confirmed that the United States will deliver a refurbished Patriot PAC-2 air-defense system to Ukraine this summer, reinforcing its defenses in the war against Russia.
Previously deployed in Israel, the system is undergoing upgrades before its transfer.
Allied nations Greece and Germany are in talks to potentially provide an additional Patriot system, with logistical details still under negotiation. Speaking anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the discussions, the officials did not elaborate on President Donald Trump’s stance on the expanded military support.
James Hewitt, a White House National Security Council spokesperson, declined to disclose specifics about defense system deployments. “President Trump has consistently prioritized ending the war in Ukraine and stopping the bloodshed,” he said.
A former White House official revealed that the Biden administration secured the Israel Patriot transfer agreement in September 2024, before Trump’s election. The U.S. Defense Department continued supplying Ukraine with equipment from previously approved packages, including existing stockpiles and newly acquired assets.
This Patriot transfer underscores the West’s commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s air defense capabilities amid ongoing Russian aggression. The potential contributions from Greece and Germany signal deepening allied support, with further updates expected as talks advance. Ukraine eagerly awaits these vital systems to enhance its battlefield resilience.
