Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey stunned on the Met Gala’s blue carpet on a rainy Monday night in New York City, but her glamorous hairstyle gave a subtle nod to the Louisiana swamps where she met and married her husband, Jeremy Dufrene.

Del Rey arrived to the annual gala that supports the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a Valentino Couture gown with a sheer lace back, satin train and shoulder bow detail. Her date was the brand’s creative director, Alessandro Michele.

Del Rey’s husband, a Louisiana alligator tour guide, did not attend the event but eagle-eyed fans spotted the reptile pins holding her pin curls in place.

Adorned with golden alligators, the hair pins — created by New Orleans accessory company Relic Room — perhaps represent her partner and the ties they’ve made together in the swamp near Des Allemands. They have spent a lot of time in New Orleans and down the bayous and even rode out a hurricane together last year.

The “Video Games” singer is soon releasing a new album on the heels of her very first, “Born To Die,” becoming a bestseller again.

This year’s Met Gala theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” puts a focus on menswear and the influence of Black dandyism on fashion. According to Vogue, the history of Black dandyism will “illustrate how Black people transformed from being enslaved and stylized as luxury items, acquired like any other signifier of wealth and status, to autonomous self-fashioning individuals who are global trendsetters.” This year’s theme honors the life of fashion icon and journalist André Leon Talley.
