The Democratic Party of Kosovo has accused the Government of protecting the interests and profits of private companies in the energy sector. MP Ferat Shala said that the Government, instead of protecting the public interest, has become a lobbyist and supporter of corrupt affairs.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo has accused the Government of increasing the price of energy, saying that Kosovo is now importing energy at a price 100 percent more expensive than it is on international exchanges.
The MP of this party, Ferat Shala, said on Tuesday at a media conference that the increase in the price of electricity is selective and discriminatory.
“We have a harmful reality, where instead of public control we have guaranteed profits for private companies KEDS, KESCO, NOA and GEN, while the ordinary citizen pays more and more. The government, instead of protecting the public interest, has become a lobbyist and supporter of corrupt affairs. Today we have energy markets within the territory of the Republic on an ethnic basis. Today we have a monopolization of over 90% of energy imports by the companies GEN and NOA. Today we import electricity at a price 100% more expensive than on international exchanges,” said Shala.
Regarding the decline in production at KEK, Shala has raised accusations, saying that all of this is being done to favor private companies that import energy.
“This scheme of systematic failure includes KOSTT and ERO, which with unprecedented zeal has guaranteed continuous price increases and has become the spokesperson and protective barricade of the outgoing government, silently covering up major corruption cases, such as the case regarding the ERO monitoring report on ‘Ibër-Lepenc’,” added the PDK MP.
Shala has asked the justice system to investigate the energy sector.
And once the Assembly is constituted, he said that they will use all parliamentary mechanisms to review every action and inaction in the management of the energy sector.
Criticism has also been directed at ERO’s decision to allow large businesses to enter the open market, which, as it has said, will lead to their bankruptcy.
On April 16, ERO decided to increase the price of energy by 16.1 percent for all categories of consumers.
As of June 1, businesses with over 50 employees or a turnover of over 10 million euros are obliged to choose their own energy supplier and their prices will not be regulated by ERO.
