Merrill earned a baseball sweep, giving up just one hit and no runs in the two wins.
The Vandals improved to 8-0 in the Mid-State Activities Conference and 12-6 overall with 1-0 and 3-0 wins Wednesday over Webberville.
Ethan Mattson threw a no-hitter in the first game, allowing one walk and striking out 15. Harrison Ayotte scored the game-winner in the seventh inning on a Collin Buckley sacrifice fly.
Braden Buckley followed with a one-hitter in the second game, striking out nine. Braden Buckley and Landin Lajoice had two hits each for the Vandals.
Baseball
Freeland 4-5, Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart 0-1: Carter McLaren earned the win in Game 1, allowing no runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings for 15-3 Freeland. Connor Lasceski and Kaden Gerzseny had a hit and RBI for the Freeland offense. Lasceski threw a complete game in the second game, adding a hit and RBI on offense. Tucker Hileman led the offense with two hits.
Valley Lutheran 12-16, Carrollton 2-2: Jack Holzhei led Valley Lutheran in the opener with two hits and three RBIs, while Trey Flood added two hits and stole two bases. Jacob Grimpo also had two hits. Ben Diener earned the win, giving up one hit and striking out five in 4 1/3 innings. In the second game, Axel Schuette had two hits and drove in four runs, with Peter Boyer earning the win for the Chargers. Diener, Flood, Boyer and Holzhei added two hits each.
Pinconning 20, Bullock Creek 15: Mason Strayer and Blake Hinson had three hits each to lead Bullock Creek, with Strayer driving in three runs and Hinson hitting a solo homer in the Game 1 loss. Game 2 was called due to darkness.
Michigan Lutheran Seminary 17-16, Saginaw United 0-0: Will Salgat had two hits and two RBIs in the opener, with Zachary Scharrer, Owen Mason and Caleb Martin also driving in two runs each. Martin and Simeon Kober combined on a three-inning no-hitter. Salgat also had two hits and two RBIs in the second game, with three MLS pitchers combining on a three-inning no-hitter.
Softball
Swan Valley 20-12, Bay City John Glenn 14-2: Mia Robinson earned wins in both games and hit homers in both games, leading Swan Valley to a Tri-Valley Conference sweep. In the first game, Robinson had two hits, including a homer, and five RBIs. Izzy Coffel and Greer Diefenbach also had two hits each, with Coffel adding two walks, two RBIs and four runs and Greer adding three RBIs. Chloe Bryce also homered for the Vikings. In Game 2, Robinson allowed five hits and no earned runs, striking out 10 in five innings for the win. Robinson homered, driving in two runs. Alivia Guilbeaux and Hailey Koch led the offense with three hits and two RBIs each, with Diefenbach, Violet Boehler and Layla Shanks adding two hits each.
Freeland 8-16, Midland High 18-6: Emma Deshone had three hits to pace Freeland in the Game 1 loss, with Madeline McDonald and Sophia Price adding two hits each. McDonald followed with six RBIs and three hits, including a homer, in the second game. Jenna Kowalski added three hits, with Deshone getting two hits and three RBIs in the Freeland win.
Valley Lutheran 14-20, Carrollton 3-5: Sarah Boyer and Olivia Parker had four hits and three RBIs each in the doubleheader sweep, with Kendelle Klemish adding three doubles and three RBIs. Adalie Ziozios also had three hits. Boyer earned the Game 1 win with three strikeouts, while Parker struck out three in the Game 2 win.
Bullock Creek 9-18, Pinconning 11-8: Lily Coyle struck out four in six innings in Bullock Creek’s Game 1 loss, adding a double on offense. Delaney Violette, Charlie Bass and Dakota Swift had doubles for the Lancers, with Swift earning the Game 2 win with eight strikeouts in six innings.
Coleman 8-22, Fulton 7-7: Coleman claimed an extra-inning win in the opener, with Raegan McCoy earning the win in relief with three no-hit innings. Klaira Sysak and Isabelle Lewis led the offense with two hits each. Kendall Allen, who earned the Game 2 win, had three hits in the second game, with Elisa Lewis and Isabelle Lewis also collecting three hits each. Isabelle Lewis also drove in five runs. Sysak, Elley Johnson and Sydney Bovee added two hits each.
Boys Track
TVC Red Meet at Alma: Frankenmuth (169.5) edged Alma (156) and Swan Valley (117) to claim the Tri-Valley Conference Red Meet. Freeland was fifth and Bridgeport sixth. Frankenmuth won two events, with Camden Simmons taking first in the shot put (47-4) and Niko Mamaladze winning the discus (139-6). Thomas Larson gave Alma wins in the 800 (1:59.08) and 1,600 (4:31.27), with a leg on the winning 3,200 relay. Alma also got a win from Christopher Churchill in the 110 hurdles (:15.18). Boston Streng-Beougher continued to build on a strong track season for Swan Valley with wins in the 200 (:22.09) and 400 (:51.28) and legs on the winning 800 relay and 1,600 relay. Jamison Pelt also earned a win for the Vikings in the long jump (20-1 ¼). Zander Wheatley won a pair of events for Freeland, finishing first in the 300 hurdles (:40.07) and high jump (6-3), with Brayden Petre winning the 100 (:10.98).
TVC Meet at Hemlock: Ithaca claimed the Tri-Valley Conference team title with 231 points, followed by Michigan Lutheran Seminary (134), Valley Lutheran (97), Carrollton (77), Nouvel (44) and Hemlock (38). Landen Styka led Ithaca with wins in the 1,600 (4:42.63) and 3,200 (10:03.44), with a leg on the winning 3,200 relay. Ithaca also got wins from Ryley White in the 100 (11:31), Miingen Bertrand in the 800 (2:04.03) and Preston Montgomery in the pole vault (10-0). Bertrand ran in the 3,200 relay with White adding a leg on the 400 relay. Seminary got wins from Brock Ochoa in the 110 hurdles (:16.83), Logan Broekhuizen in the shot put (46-1), Joey Cain in the discus (144-10) and Andrew Miller in the long jump. Valley Lutheran’s Jack Strieter won the 400 (:51.47) and ran legs on the winning 800 relay and 1,600 relay. Noah Hecht also gave the Chargers a first place in the high jump (5-10). Other winners were Carrollton’s Solomon Harris in the 200 (:23.32) and Hemlock’s Noah Van Haitsma in the 300 hurdles (:42.8).
MMAC Quad at Chesaning: Zach Harlan won three events for Chesaning in a Mid-Michigan Activities Conference quad meet. Harlan won the 100 (:11.22), 200 (:22.94) and 400 (:52.30), with a leg on the winning 400 relay. Caleb Walker added wins in the 110 hurdles (:15.14) and 300 hurdles (:39.37), with Seth Schlicht also winning a pair of events, the shot put (51-1) and discus (135-8). Law Danek won the 1,600 (4:38.7), and Eric Barancik the high jump (6-4).
MMAC at Birch Run: Donte Hart won three events to lead Birch Run in the Mid-Michigan Activities Conference quadrangular. Hart won the 100 (:11.50), 200 (:23.52) and 400 (:53.24), with a leg on the winning 1,600 relay. Calob Billings also gave Birch Run three first places in the 110 hurdles (:16.91), 300 hurdles (:45.43) and discus (125-5), adding a leg on the winning 400 relay. Jace Thomas finished first in the 3,200 (11:20.25), with Alex Maya winning the pole vault (11-6) and running legs on the winning 400 relay and 1,600 relay.
MSAC Jamboree at Vestaburg: Anthony Rowe won the 800 (2:10.95) and 1,600 (4:58.35), adding a leg on the winning 1,600 relay for Breckenridge. Zander Mapes also claimed a pair of first places in the shot put (47-10) and discus (145-9 ½). St. Charles won the 400 relay (:46.92) and Coleman claimed the 800 relay (1:37.82).
Clare Last Chance Meet: Clare won its own “Last Chance” meet with 170 points, with Sanford Meridian second with 62. Meridian wins were Tyler Heal in the 3,200 (10:06.38), Alijah Frazier in the shot put (42-5 ½), Jonathon Durfee in the discus (141-2) and James Schroder in the high jump (5-10). The Mustangs also won the 3,200 relay.
Girls Track
TVC Red Meet at Alma: Natalie Foltz dominated the distance events, leading Frankenmuth to a win with 199.5 points in the Tri-Valley Conference Meet. Foltz won the 800 (2:21.76), the 1,600 (5:20.69) and 3,200 (11:55.50). The Eagles also got wins from Lucy Conzelmann in the 400 (1:01.17), Catherine Retberg in the discus (111-10 ½) and Rosemary Brenner in the high jump (5-0). Freeland finished second (138.5), Alma third (104.5), Swan Valley fourth (95.5) and Bridgeport sixth (28). Sydney Kuhn claimed a pair of wins for Swan Valley with a school record in the 300 hurdles (:42.06) and a win in the 200 (:24.63). Grace Spear gave the Vikings a win in the 100 (:13.25) and a leg on the winning 1,600 relay. Alma’s Allison Sandro won the 110 hurdles (:17.45) and Freeland’s Payton Maxey the shot put (39-3).
TVC Meet at Hemlock: Ithaca beat out Valley Lutheran and Hemlock for the team championship in the Tri-Valley Conference Meet Wednesday. Khloe Lehnst won the 1,600 (5:43.83) for Ithaca, adding a leg on the winning 3,200 relay. Ithaca also got wins from Madison Montgomery in the 200 (:27.59), Makinna Foglesong in the 3,200 (12:23.07) and Sage Lamey in the pole vault (8-6). McKenzie Derusha paced Valley Lutheran with wins in the 100 hurdles (:15.95) and 300 hurdles (:48.89), while Bethany Cmeyla claimed the 400 (1:00.92) and Lindsey Cmeyla the 800 (2:29.36). Cmeyla, Cmeyla and Derusha ran legs on the winning 1,600 relay. Kendelle Klemish added a win in the shot put (35-8) and Ava Kelsey in the long jump (15-11). Izzy Curry won the high jump for Hemlock (5-2) and ran on the winning 800 relay and 400 relay, with Klaira Salo claiming the 100 (12.88) with a leg on the 800 relay. Nellie Maltby gave the Huskies another win in the discus (94-2).
MMAC Quad at Chesaning: Cora Ustishen earned a pair of wins for Chesaning in the 100 (:13.75) and 200 (:28.7), with a leg on the winning 400 relay in the Mid-Michigan Activities Conference quadrangular. Savanna Conklin swept the hurdles events with wins in the 100 hurdles (:18.50) and 300 hurdles (:53.69). Makayla Reiber claimed the 400 (1:02.05), Ruby Gross the 800 (2:37.83) and Alonna Schack the 1,600 (5:52.43), with all three running legs on the winning 1,600 relay. Other Chesaning winners were Breckyn Bucsi in the 3,200 (16:01.31), Haley Garno in the shot put (32-0), Chloe Tithof in the discus (79-5) and Whitney James in the high jump (5-0).
MMAC Quad at Birch Run: Kylie Mausolf and Chloe Koskinen paced Birch Run in a Mid-Michigan Activities Conference quadrangular, with Mausolf winning the 800 (2:37.25) and 1,600 (5:35.62). Koskinen claimed the 3,200 (14:09.16) and pole vault (6-6). Elli Herrera added a first place in the long jump (15-8 ½).
MSAC Jamboree at Vestaburg: Breckenridge earned the Mid-State Activities Conference jamboree title with 164 points, followed by St. Charles in fifth, Merrill in seventh and Coleman in ninth. Breckenridge got wins from Raegyn Mayer in the 100 (:13.45), Da’sia Denwiddie in the 200 (:27.72) and Kylo Riedel in the 100 hurdles (:17.52) with all three running legs on the winning 800 relay. The Huskies also won the 3,200 relay. Macie Hafner gave St. Charles a win in the high jump (5-2).
Girls Soccer
Midland High 1, Mount Pleasant 0: Midland got the goal it needed to maintain its perfect record in a Saginaw Valley League shutout against Mount Pleasant. Kennedy Emeott scored the lone goal of the game off a corner kick with 16 seconds remaining in the first half. Niobe Marchalant and Ellee Arnold shared time in goal for the shutout win for Midland (14-0, 8-0).
Boys Lacrosse
Traverse City West 11, Heritage 5: Logan Boettcher and Elden Wideman scored two goals each for 9-5 Heritage, with Josh Larsen making 17 saves. Gavin Garcia led the defense with five ground balls.
