PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Van Dyke and Co. Dance Studio will hold its 2025 Dance Showcase featuring the ballet “Graduation Ball.”
Artistic Director Joan Van Dyke said the show is a full-length ballet with music by Johanne Strause. She said the ballet is centered on an all-girls school in Vienna that gets together with a military school once a year and puts on a ball. She said the various grade levels are represented in the ballet. She said the last time they performed the ballet was in 2001. She said the girls have been working and practicing on the performance since September.
She said the other part of the show will be performed by the Jazz, Tap, and Modern students. She said teacher Carla Fillman choreographed several pieces based on the works of Andy Warhol, accompanied by music from David Bowie and inspired by disco and themes from the 1970s and 1980s. She said Fillman was inspired by Warhol’s artwork, particularly his “Mylar Balloons.” She said a lot of choreographers get their inspiration from other art forms.
The show starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday with tickets available at the door at the Jackson Theater. Van Dyke said the show runs an hour and a half with an intermission.
