President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani has once again called on the European Union to lift its punitive measures against Kosovo and to seriously address Serbia’s destabilizing policies.

In a Facebook post on Europe Day—a public holiday in Kosovo celebrated on May 9—Osmani emphasized that this symbolic day should serve as a moment to collectively demand the removal of what she called the “unjust EU measures” imposed on Kosovo.

The EU introduced sanctions against Kosovo in 2023 following heightened tensions in the country’s north and continues to maintain them, arguing that Kosovo has not yet taken sufficient steps to de-escalate the situation in the Serb-majority areas.

Osmani also urged the EU to take seriously the destabilizing actions of Serbia, noting that these policies became even more apparent when Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić chose to mark Europe Day in Moscow, with Russian President Vladimir Putin—“the very person who today threatens the stability and security of our continent,” she said.

In her message, Osmani stressed that in order for the European dream of a united, free, and whole Europe to be fully realized, the EU must end its punitive measures against Kosovo, which she described as “the most pro-European people,” and stop “appeasement policies” toward a pro-Putin Serbia.
