Throughout 2024 and into early 2025, global music icon Taylor Swift remained a constant presence in the spotlight—and for good reason.

Not only was she concluding her record-breaking “Eras Tour,” which shattered attendance and revenue records at nearly every stop, but she also drew attention for her high-profile appearances supporting boyfriend Travis Kelce during the Kansas City Chiefs’ playoff run, culminating in the Super Bowl in New Orleans this past February.

Since that whirlwind period, Swift has largely stepped out of the public eye. While she’s expected to reemerge for events later this summer, she has yet to release new music in 2025.

Despite that, an exciting announcement on Sunday highlighted her continued impact on the music industry.

According to “Swift Charts,” the 35-year-old star has reclaimed the No. 1 spot on the UK Spotify streaming chart, overtaking rapper and R&B artist Drake.

While many believe Swift could reclaim the No. 1 spot on the global streaming chart, it will be an incredibly challenging feat without any new music on the horizon. Currently, Spanish rapper Bad Bunny holds the top position firmly, making it a near impossible climb for Swift in the short term.

Fans had mixed reactions to the news:

“At least the Swifties from the United Kingdom are loyal, but surpassing Bad Bunny at the moment is impossible if there are no new releases,” a fan said.

“Bad bunny is now doing 80-85m daily from tour boost lmfao the gap grew 30 million,” another fan posted.

Someone else added, “She wouldn’t return to #1 global or USA Spotify anytime soon unless new releases, Morgan album coming Friday.”

“No she’s not. Without releasing anything she’s not,” one more fan commented.

Yet, whether or not she regains the No. 1 spot, Swift is savoring her break with Travis Kelce before the NFL season kicks off in the coming months. Despite the pause in new music, she’s still setting historic milestones.

As of May 5, Swift holds the all-time records for the highest-grossing tour ever, the first to surpass $1 billion in a single year, the only one to reach $2 billion, the most tickets sold by a solo artist on a single tour, and the highest average attendance per show.
