The portfolio totals 2.5GWh of AC capacity and the commercial rollout of the software will start in Q4 2025 with a ramp-up in 2026, though Electrohold didn’t say how much of the capacity is online already. It already has several PV projects online, including one covered by our sister site PV Tech in 2023.
“By strategically employing co-location solutions and the latest technology, we are creating a platform that is not only economically attractive but also significantly enhances the technical resilience of the Bulgarian power grid at lower costs,” said Assen Christov, chair of the supervisory board of Eurohold Bulgaria.
The Mobility House is a Germany-headquartered firm which primarily provides smart charging and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) software, but last year it announced plans to move into the large-scale BESS space, starting in Germany.
At that time the company told Energy-Storage.news that it had been commercialising batteries and BESS since 2016 and is co-owner and operator of over 100MW of mostly 1-hour systems in France, Germany and the Netherlands.
The announcement comes shortly after the government of Bulgaria approved a scheme that will support the construction and commissioning of 82 standalone BESS projects totalling nearly 10GWh of capacity, with BGN1.15 billion (€588 million/US$670 million).
Other companies deploying large-scale BESS in Bulgaria include hydropower firm NEK and IPP Renalfa.
