Seems like a strange judgement, the tribunal accepts the ‘slave’ remark was just a clumsy joke and not intended maliciously, it rejected the claim of racial discrimination or discriminatory conduct under the Equality Act, and finally it said the complainant had an “acute sensitivity to criticism” and a mindset that “treats any critical comment as unfair”. And yet… here’s three hundred and sixty grand. Okay then.

Deserved. The black security manager should have been paid out way more for this blatant racism.

This r/ has moved up in the world. It’s now attracting the Torygraph article comments section people that can string sentences together.

Read the article, he was bullied and harassed for over 10 years, not just called a slave once.

The main reason for the award was subjecting him to a random disciplinary investigation with no basis and no prior notice (the judgment states *”Neither of the witnesses who gave evidence before us on behalf of the
Respondent even attempted to substantiate any alleged or suspected wrongdoing
on the part of the Claimant”*) which prompted his resignation i.e
constructive dismissal.

Sounds like a lucrative gig, ask your white colleague to say something bigoted towards you and split the profits from the discrimination lawsuit.

This stinks , why do they deserve a payment of this size for being offended, complete joke .

A people wonder why society continues to segregate. Why run the risk of engaging with people from different backgrounds if at any moment you can be accused of being a bigot?

So stupid. I call people slaves everyday and not once was I thinking about the slavery of black people! Slave to the man/ system, as I am myself.

To anyone who is only going to read the headline, notice how the headline doesn’t say the £361k was specifically *for* being called a slave.

And right on cue, here are the “I’m not racist but” white people to explain why calling a black person a historically derogatory name isn’t racist. You do not, have never, nor will you ever speak for black people.
I don’t need any of you to reply, your lack of ability to empathise with anyone outside of your group makes conversation meaningless. Shameful and uncivilised.

Room temperature IQs in this thread taking the title at face value, and not really reading the article.
The slave thing was just part of the issue. You have to demonstrate that you were actually mistreated, not just mean words.
But I guess it’s harder to discuss context when you can just rage about it.

Can some black guys call me every derogatory name under the sun at work please 🙏

My wife is American and moved to the Uk in 2003. Some months after she had been here, my wife had an interview via a recruitment agency. She is Hispanic and has a dark/olive complexion. She is also a Goth. She wore a pinstripe suit with a leather trench coat as it was raining. After the interview, she was told by the recruiter that they loved her but they though she was “too dark”. Try and interpret that how you will and they tried to backtrack.
