Cape Fear Valley Health is significantly increasing its day care capacity.

The hospital system broke ground May 14 on an 11,519-square-foot expansion of its First Adventures Child Development Center in Fayetteville, which provides care for the children of hospital system employees, according to a news release.

First Adventures at 1727 Roxie Ave. currently serves up to 240 children, and once the $4.8 million expansion is complete, the center will grow to 38,013 square feet and boost capacity by an additional 200 children, according to Roxana Ross, spokesperson for Cape Fear Valley Health.

According to the release, the expansion includes 12 new classrooms, which allows the facility to add 30 new staff positions. Upgrades to the playground area are also planned, with construction scheduled for completion in this winter, the release said.

The center, which holds a four-star license, provides care for children as young as 6 weeks through pre-kindergarten, along with before- and after-school care for children up to 12, the release said.

“This expansion reflects Cape Fear Valley Health’s ongoing commitment to investing in early childhood education and supporting the needs of its workforce and their families,” the release said.
