We celebrate 17th of May in Norway to commemorate the signing of the Norwegian Constitution at Eidsvoll in 1814. On this day, Norway declared itself an independent kingdom with its own constitution, establishing principles of democracy and national sovereignty after centuries under Danish rule.
Although full independence came later (from Sweden in 1905), the 17th of May is honored as Norway’s National Day, focusing on freedom, peace, and children’s rights, marked by parades, flags, music, and community celebrations across the country.
