The 12-episode drama concluded on May 18, 2025, and is a spin-off of the popular Hospital Playlist series. Despite strong ratings and global success, there has been no announcement from tvN or Netflix about a second season.
According to Nielsen Korea, the series reached a nationwide viewership rating of 7.5% before its final week. It became the most-watched cable show of the day and ranked No. 1 on Netflix in six countries, including India while placing in the top 10 in 14 others.
The show’s premiere faced delays due to real-life tensions in South Korea’s medical sector. In 2024, mass protests erupted over proposed reforms to increase medical school admissions, which led to resignations and debates over resident working conditions. The Korea Times reported that the show’s theme risked appearing to romanticize medical struggles amid ongoing unrest.
Resident Playbook followed four Gen Z interns in Yulje Hospital’s OB-GYN department. Episode 12 provided narrative closure: Oh Yi-young accepted a second-year position, Um Jae-il began a research paper, Pyo Nam-kyung faced the death of her first patient, and Kim Sa-bi learned to uplift patients with humor. The episode also showed romantic developments and professional milestones for several characters.
All episodes are available to stream on Netflix. The creators have not confirmed any future continuation, and no announcements suggest an expansion into second-year resident stories.
