As the country’s transmission operator, MEPSO, wrote on its Facebook page, a fault and a brief outage occurred on the 110 kV transmission network on Sunday morning. The disruption was caused by high voltages in the 400 kV network across the region, which affected the system and triggered a temporary outage of the 400/110 kV power transformers at transformer substations.

“This is a regional and European issue faced by nearly all transmission system operators, due to low electricity transit and consumption during night hours and weekends at this time of year,” the company wrote, adding that MEPSO teams responded immediately, and within about an hour, electricity supply across the country had been restored but teams continue to work on fully stabilising the power system.

They also noted that systematic efforts, such as implementing new investments in close cooperation with neighbouring transmission system operators, are helping to strengthen the system’s stability, which in the past had been seriously neglected and poorly maintained.
