Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Givi Mikanadze, held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Georgia, H.E. Mr. Ali Kaan Orbai.

The sides reviewed the long-standing and particularly friendly relations between the two countries and discussed opportunities to further deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.

As G. Mikanadze noted during the meeting, there is considerable potential for expanding and diversifying bilateral relations between Georgia and Turkey.

The fields of education, science, and youth affairs present excellent opportunities to add new dynamics to our cooperation. I proposed that the Committee undertake an official visit to Turkey this autumn, during which we would hold meetings with representatives of the relevant committee of the Grand National Assembly, the Ministry of Education, the Academy of Sciences, and visit local universities. We aim to agree on bilateral cooperation formats that will allow us to further intensify this dialogue. In addition, we plan to establish annual joint committee meetings, where we will develop concrete proposals and recommendations to be submitted to the relevant executive bodies“, – Givi Mikanadze stated.

Ambassador Orbai expressed full readiness to support the proposed initiatives and responded positively to the Committee Chair’s proposals.

This would be an excellent continuation of the strong relationship that has developed between our two nations and peoples. I will do my utmost to facilitate this process and ensure the success of the visit“, – the Ambassador noted.

The meeting also addressed cooperation within the framework of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Particular attention was given to the high-level seminar on security issues held in Antalya at the end of April, as well as to the NATO PA Spring Session and the ongoing cooperation with the Turkish delegation within the Assembly.

I shared specific ideas regarding cooperation with the Turkish delegation within the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. The Ambassador expressed his willingness to support this effort and confirmed that he would forward the information to the relevant authorities“, – G. Mikanadze concluded.
