“We supported a proscribed terrorist organisation by mistake”

Insofar as preventing people showing support for terrorist organisations…yes?
It’s a bit bloody cheeky for them to claim they’re being prevented from criticising Israel. If they’d said ‘the israeli government are a shower of cunts conducting a genocidal campaign against the free people of Palestine’ there would be no charge to answer.
It is *that easy* to criticise Israel without having to support islamofascist organisations or delving into antisemetism.

Uh, yes. Yes it is. Terrorism is rooted in politics. It’s the advancement of political beliefs through violence. Terrorists and their supporters need to be policed.

You supported a proscribed terror group, amongst other vulgar things including inciting violence and killings of political persons.
I hope we’ll see all those from the left, who advocated jail time for that woman who tweeted “inciting” violence during the soutport riots will equally condem these too?

Terrorism is political violence so you can always claim that anti-terrorism policing is political policing. Doesn’t make supporting terrorism any more acceptable and if you don’t think Hezbollah are terrorists I’d suggest asking some Syrians what horrors were committed against them by Hezbollah.
AbbreviationsHot7662 on
As someone who is pro-Palestinian this shite infuriates me to no end. “Ooh let us be edgy and wave a flag of an Iranian geopolitical tool”. It was obviously gonna be used by the opposite side as evidence that any and all pro-Palestinians are actually all anti-semites and terrorist sympathisers.
No interest in understanding why Hezbollah is “controversial” (to say the fucking least). Speak to actual Lebanese people who’ve had their PM assassinated by them, who have obfuscated every investigation into the Beirut Port explosion (and who are widely believed to have kept the ammonium nitrate in the warehouses despite warnings) and who have held Lebanon and the Lebanese people to ransom for decades, all to further the aims of the Iranian state. As if they care about Palestinians.
Wanna show solidarity to Palestinians? They actually have their own flag you could’ve waved. Instead, these morons end up actively harming the cause by waving a flag of an Iranian proxy. But obviously researching these things requires an actual curiosity in the politics and history of the region, beyond just ‘ooh let us be edgy and stick it to the establishment’. Silly twats.

I’m not convinced waiving a flag should be sufficient evidence of such an offence. I think there should need to be other activities e.g. terrorist activities, raising funds, writing articles, speeches, lyrics, social posts etc for conviction. And the bar should be resonably high imo.
Also, imo artists should have some more leeway for expression than others.
Lion_From_The_North on
Given the definition of terrorism (politically motivated, fear and anger inducing crime), he’s probably right that any anti-terror policing is “political policing”. That’s the reason we do it!

They are so fucking unbearable. “I’m on the right side of history, I don’t want to get old and be asked why I didn’t do more”

They’re, making music and profiting off losers that tweet all day rather than actually do anything worthwhile with their time. You aren’t the MLK of your time, you aren’t the Suffragettes. You aren’t even Diane Abbott.
It’s embarrassing the amount of slacktism on the left. Jeremy fucking Corbyn had to turn up at a festive just for them to come out of their K-Holes and remember they’ve got the vote before promptly forgetting again.

Theres a bit of a difference between waving a hezbollah flag around and calling out Israel for being a bunch of wankers.
No ones saying you can’t call Israel a bunch of wankers for what they’re doing, what they are doing is saying you can’t support a known terrorist organisation.

I don’t have a problem with the stupid “up Hezbollah”, “up Hamas” shit even though they are terrorist organizations because imo they were just being edgy attention seeking muppets. They didn’t stand behind it when challenged and immediately backed down. They didn’t have the balls.
What I do have a problem with is them shouting about killing MPs. This shit actually happens. It happened to David Amess and Jo Cox. It nearly happened to that one Labour bloke. Who knows how many attempts have been thwarted? We have a lot of nutters in this country and they don’t need much encouragement.

When our country has gone out to support both diplomatically and militarily a pariah-state that’s committed far more atrocities than Hezbollah ever has, it becomes clear that this isn’t about morals. No one would catch a charge for saying “Up the IDF” whilst waving an Israeli flag, our government even made sure to parachute staunch supporters of these brutalisers into safe seats. So why care so much over Kneecap? This clearly isn’t coming from a moral high ground.
karlware on
They think they’re not going Crown Court? About to learn a lesson in the legal system if nothing else.
Mkwdr on
If you think supporting terrorists is fine and shouldn’t be a legal problem then that’s certainly an opinion. But yeh, it’s one that I disagree with and it is currently subject to a specific law which you would presumably like repealed?
The idea that it’s pearl clutching being concerned about public support for terrorism , but *not* pearl clutching getting all concerned about alleged support terrorists and incitement to violence *being investigated and tested according to the law* seems absurd to me. That any such concerns about public support for terrorists and potentially incitement to violence can just be dismissed as silly seems worse than silly itself.
If you appear to show public support for a terrorist group that recently carried out a horrendous atrocity and suggest killing politicians is fine after a number have been killed then it doesn’t seem unreasonable at all that such behaviour isn’t just immoral but might have legal consequences proportionate to the seriousness of the offence. Thus an investigation. It may never go to court and if it does they may not be convicted of anything because the actions may be judged as superficial.
I suspect that if they’d showed support for a group that had recently massacred a group of transgender people or joked that killing immigrants was fine then some of those dismissing being concerned about this kind of behaviour as ‘pearl clutching’ would have a different reaction. Though no doubt pure American style 1st amendmenters might be more consistent.
I don’t expect any kind of disproportionate punishment , I wouldn’t be surprised if nothing comes of it – but showing support for terrorists and joking about killing politicians isn’t something we should necessarily encourage or laugh off. And well it’s okay by me , just a bit of banter , therefore no one should even investigate doesn’t seem like a very good way to run a society.

As someone who’s on the left leaning side of the political aisle, there’s no real justification to support fucking Hezbollah without being a dick. At least with Palestine you don’t have to support Hamas to support an independent Palestine.
Also, Kneecap could do some good shit if they wanted to, like them trying to preserve the Irish language is really cool, but they still choose to act like edgelord teenagers.
