OUR MAYA PAYTON HAS BEEN ON TOP OF THIS STORY AND BREAKS DOWN HOW IT WORKS AND THE ESSENTIAL MISSING DETAIL THAT PEOPLE NEED TO BE LOOKING OUT FOR. NIGEL AND CAROL, THE SCAMMERS BEHIND THESE SCAMS HAVE RECENTLY WALKED AWAY WITH $11,000 USING FAKE INVOICES AND FAKE EMAILS. ALL OF THIS MONEY LIKELY GONE WITHOUT A TRACE. NOW, WHEN YOU CLICK ON THE ANDERSON COUNTY’S PLANNING DEPARTMENT WEBSITE, YOU’RE MET WITH THIS MESSAGE HERE, ANDERSON COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR. RUSTY BURNS SAYS THEY WERE RECENTLY NOTIFIED OF A SCAM WHERE A CUSTOMER OF THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT RECEIVED FRAUDULENT INVOICES SENT THROUGH EMAIL. ANDERSON COUNTY SAYS THE ONLY TIME WIRE PAYMENTS ARE ACCEPTED IS FOR LARGE SUMS OF MONEY, BUT THAT IS DONE WITH THE ANDERSON COUNTY TREASURER’S OFFICE AND INCLUDES A TWO FACTOR AUTHENTICATION ON THE COUNTY’S FACEBOOK POST ABOUT THIS SCAM, ONE PERSON ASKED, HOW DID THE SCAMMER KNOW THE CUSTOMER WAS DOING BUSINESS WITH THE COUNTY? WELL, RUSTY SAYS THAT’S BECAUSE THAT INFORMATION WAS MADE PUBLIC THROUGH THE COUNTY’S AGENDA IN ANDERSON COUNTY. I’M MAYA PAYTON, WYFF NEWS FOUR. MAYA. THANK YOU. LET’S TURN TO WEATHER NOW AS WE GIVE YOU A LIVE LOOK OUTSIDE FROM OUR LAKE HARTWELL SKYCAM A BEAUTIFUL DAY OUT THERE. REALLY PRETTY OUT THERE. METEOROLOGIST DALE GILBERT JOINS US WITH THE AREA’S CERTIFIED MOST ACCURATE FORECAST. DALE, IT’S BEEN KIND OF WINDY OUT THERE. YEAH, IT REALLY HAS. WE’VE SEEN WIND GUSTS TODAY OVER 25 MILES AN HOUR AT TIMES. SO IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A LITTLE ROUGH OUT ON THE WATER FOR FOLKS. BUT YOU KNOW WITH THE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND COMING UP, A LOT OF FOLKS WILL BE HITTING THE WATER. AND FRIDAY AND SATURDAY RIGHT NOW ARE LOOKING GOOD AND THE WINDS ARE GOING TO CALM DOWN. BUT STILL, SEEING A 21 MILE PER HOUR BREEZE IN ANDERSON WITH 82 DEGREES GOT UP TO 83 TODAY, AND TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 80 RANGE. IT WILL BE DROPPING OVERNIGHT TONIGHT DOWN INTO THE 50S FOR THE UPSTATE, AND THE MOUNTAINS WILL SEE TEMPERATURES DROP INTO THE 40S IN A FEW PLACES. SO THAT COOL, DRY AIR MIXING INTO THE AREA TONIGHT WILL COOL THINGS DOWN TOMORROW, AND TEMPERATURES TOMORROW WILL STRUGGLE TO GET INTO THE 60S IN THE MOUNTAINS AND JUST 70S FOR THE UPSTATE. SO WHILE IT’S STILL BREEZY OUT THIS EVENING, EXPECT THAT TO CALM DOWN OVERNIGHT AND TOMORROW BE MORE LIKE 5 TO 10 MILES AN HOUR. SO LIVE SUPER DOPPLER FOUR HD. NOT HAVING TO WORK VERY HARD TONIGHT. IT’S ALL DRY FROM THE MOUNTAINS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE COAST AND WILL STAY THAT WAY THROUGH SATURDAY. BUT THEN THINGS START TO CHANGE. COME SUNDAY, I’LL TAKE THE FUTURE RADAR WITH OUR MAIN REPORT IN A FEW MINUTES, AND SHOW YOU WHICH DAYS WILL BE IMPACTED WITH SHOWERS AGAIN. WHEN WE GET TO THAT, STAY AROUND. DALE. THANK YOU. TONIGHT IN LAKE LURE, THE WORK CONTINUES TO CLEAN UP. NEARLY EIGHT MONTHS AFTER HURRICANE HELENE HIT OUR AREA. PART OF THAT EFFORT IS CLEANING UP DEBRIS FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE LAKE. THE U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS IS HELPING WITH THAT WORK. THIS IS AN EXCLUSIVE LOOK AT LAKE LURE FROM SKY4. THE WORK TO CLEAN THE LAKE IS TAKING PLACE 12 HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, WITH CREWS PULLING DEBRIS FROM THE LAKE AND DOZENS OF TRUCKS HAULING IT AWAY. THE WORK ALSO REQUIRED LOWERING THE LAKE LEVEL. REY LLERENA HAS MORE NOW FROM LAKE LURE ON HOW THAT CLEANUP IS GOING AND WHAT IS NEXT FOR THE MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY. BEFORE HELENE, THIS LAKE WOULD BE FULL OF BOATERS, SWIMMERS, AND PEOPLE ENJOYING WHAT LAKE LURE HAS TO OFFER IN ORDER TO KEEP CLEANING UP. AFTER THE STORM. THE LAKE HAS BEEN DROPPED TEN FEET SKY4 HOVERING ABOVE AS CREWS ON THE GROUND CLEAN UP DEBRIS AND SEDIMENT FROM LAKE LURE. THE CLEANUP IS GOING MARVELOUSLY. IF YOU REMEMBER FROM WHEN AFTER RIGHT AFTER THE DISASTER, OF COURSE, THERE WAS DEBRIS PILED 50FT HIGH EVEN ABOVE THE LAKE AND IN ALL THE ROADS. MAYOR CAROL PRITCHETT SAYS MORE THAN 1,000,000YD OF DEBRIS HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE LAKE SO FAR. WE FOUND SOME REFRIGERATORS. WE FOUND PETROLEUM TANKS. WE FOUND ALL KINDS OF THINGS LIKE THAT THAT HAD COME DOWN THE RIVER FROM ABOVE US. CERTAINLY CHIMNEY ROCK AND ABOVE. PRITCHETT SAYS FEMA HAS COVERED THE COST OF CLEANUP OF THE LAKE. BUT FOR THE REST, THEY ARE LOOKING FOR GRANTS AND HELP FROM THE STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENTS. I WILL TELL YOU, THERE’S NO POSSIBLE WAY WITH THE INFRASTRUCTURE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED HERE, THAT A TOWN OF 1400 COULD POSSIBLY AFFORD THAT. AND I THINK, AS YOU WELL KNOW, WE ARE THE SEWER SYSTEM FOR CHIMNEY ROCK AS WELL. PRITCHETT ALSO SAYS THAT SEWER SYSTEM RUNS UNDERNEATH THE LAKE. STATE REPRESENTATIVE JAKE JOHNSON SAYS POST HELENE, 10% OF THE COST HAS TO BE SHARED TO KEEP RECEIVING FEDERAL DOLLARS. I’VE GOT LAKE LURE AND LAKE TAHOMA, JUST THOSE TWO CLEANUP PROJECTS COMBINED. YOU’RE LOOKING AT OVER $300 MILLION JUST FOR THOSE TWO BODIES OF WATER. THE MAYOR SAYS THE DEBRIS AND SEDIMENT IS NOW BEING TRUCKED TO ENOREE IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY. LAKE LURE OFFICIALS SAY WHILE THE LAKE IS CLOSED FOR SEVERAL MORE MONTHS, THE TOWN ITSELF REMAINS OPEN. THEY SAY THEY WILL GET ANOTHER UPDATE FROM THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS AS TO WHEN THEY CAN REOPEN THE LAKE AROUND LABOR DAY. REPORTING IN LAKE LURE REY LLERENA WYFF NEWS FOUR. A NOW FORMER CLEMSON UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR IS NOW FACING MORE CHARGES OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY. THAT IS ACCORDING TO THE ANDERSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE. AUTHORITIES IN FRANKLIN, NORTH CAROLINA, SAY A MAN CALLED 911 ON HIMSELF AFTER LAUNCHING HIS VEHICLE OFF THE HIGHWAY AND INTO BREAKING INTO A GAS STATION JUST AFTER 1 A.M. WEDNESDAY. POLICE SAY THEY RESPONDED TO A REPORT OF A CRASH AT HOLLY SPRINGS PLAZA. WHILE OFFICERS WERE EN ROUTE, THEY RECEIVED ANOTHER CALL ABOUT A BURGLARY ALARM NEAR THE CRASH. OFFICERS SAY A MAN GOING NORTH ON U.S. HIGHWAY 441 WENT AIRBORNE AND HIT A CULVERT. TROOPERS SAY THE WORKERS WERE OUT OF THE TRUCK AND WERE HIT BY DEBRIS. WE’RE TOLD BOTH WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE DRIVER, LLOYD CLARKSON, WAS CHARGED WITH FAILURE TO MAINTAIN PROPER LANE. IN A VOTE EARLY THIS MORNING, THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PASSED WHAT PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP CALLS THE ONE BIG, BEAUTIFUL BUDGET BILL BY ONE VOTE. THE FINAL TALLY WAS 215 TO 214. TWO REPUBLICANS, TOM MASSIE AND WARREN DAVIDSON, JOINED ALL DEMOCRATS IN VOTING AGAINST IT, WHILE REPUBLICAN ANDY HARRIS CAST A PRESENT VOTE. THERE WERE ALSO TWO NON-VOTES. THE LEGISLATION WOULD EXTEND THE PRESIDENT’S EXPIRING 2017 TAX CUTS, CONTAINS INCREASES IN SPENDING FOR THE U.S. MILITARY AND THE PRESIDENT’S MASS DEPORTATION PLANS. IT ALSO FULFILLS TWO OF PRESIDENT TRUMP’S CAMPAIGN PROMISES ELIMINATING TAXES ON TIPS AND OVERTIME WORK. THE BILL ALSO SLASHES SPENDING IN OTHER AREAS, INCLUDING HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN CUTS TO MEDICAID AND THE SNAP PROGRAM. AS THE BILL HEADS TO THE SENATE, SOUTH CAROLINA SENATOR LINDSEY GRAHAM SAYS HE DOESN’T THINK THE CUTS ARE DEEP ENOUGH. SO LET’S DON’T GET HIGH ON OUR HORSE HERE THAT WE’VE SOMEHOW MADE SOME MAJOR ADVANCEMENT OF REDUCING SPENDING BECAUSE WE DIDN’T. THE BILL WOULD ALSO RAISE THE DEBT CEILING BY $4 TRILLION. WE WILL HAVE MORE COVERAGE ON THE BUDGET BILL COMI

A man is facing over a dozen charges including murder after a family dispute turned into a “violent rampage” that resulted in the murder of a business owner from Rock Hill, South Carolina.
