“Now is the right time to travel from the US to Greece,” major foreign travel platforms are saying to attract the interest of Americans, promoting cheap airline tickets.

For this summer season, transatlantic trips are considered more affordable than ever due to the increased number of flights: For the current summer season, the direct air routes scheduled at the peak of the tourist season will reach 103 per week, compared to 82 last year and 67 in 2023.

The crowding of direct flights, combined with the high expectations that initially existed for demand and which have not yet been verified, has led to a decrease in fares compared to last year. A decrease of 10-20% is recorded in airline fares from the US to Greece, with the largest drop found on routes with an intermediate stop, according to information from the travel market.

This development is considered reasonable, as the increased number of direct flights leads major airlines to the need to fill empty seats on routes with a connection, implementing bidding strategies.

In some cases, the advertised prices appear reduced by up to 50% from last year. However, these are mainly “bargain” prices, which concern a limited number of seats and do not reflect the overall picture of the market.

According to the widely used platform Going, which has published data and trends on airfare prices for this summer, including flights from the US to Athens, the average round-trip fare is 817 euros for the summer of 2025. Flights departing on Tuesdays or Wednesdays usually have lower rates, while the ideal period for booking international tickets is four to 10 months in advance.

On the contrary, July is considered the least favorable month for finding deals, due to high demand.

It should be noted that since last year, five airlines have been operating direct flights on the US-Athens route (American, Delta, United, Emirates and Norse), while the departure airports now number nine in total (New York JFK, Newark, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Boston, Washington, Los Angeles and Charlotte).
