Students in the Greece Central School District have a unique opportunity to train for a future as first responders.

The Responding to Emergencies Career Pathways program offers in-class, as well as hands-on experience for juniors and seniors to learn CPR, first aid, firefighter hose handling and ladder operations.

This year, students were able to learn in a real-life ambulance donated by Monroe Ambulance.

“The organization is a community and this program, and us donating the ambulance to the program, is just part of us giving back to the community and making sure we’re bringing the next generation, and giving them the best step forward that they possibly can have,” said Michael Witkowski, chief of EMS operations for Monroe Ambulance.

The program aims to help fill the community’s shortage of first EMTs and firefighters.
