Listening to Ben Kentish this morning on LBC; he’s always struck me as quite balanced but probably more left-leaning than others at the channel, but even he is promoting the ‘isn’t Angela Rayner calling Reform voters idiots by calling Farage a snake oil salesman’. Hillary still gets the blame for calling MAGA ‘deplorables’, when all their behaviour & language since has indeed been deplorable.
An old guy came on to give his view and said he was voting Reform and just waded into repeating bullshit about France putting migrants in boats to send here, how Europe was our enemy etc. Just repeating talking points without listening to the counter-factual (when challenged with the actual truth he does the usual ‘I’m just a lay person/I’m not as clever as you), without actually applying critical thinking to a different viewpoint.

Radical politics are interesting, because everyone loves to believe that they are fighting against radicalism, but in reality both parties are radical. The UK is a political shit show where no one is willing to accept that they have gone too far in pursuit of undermining the ideologies of their opposition. Has migration and diversity gone too far? Yes. However, has Racism and Xenophobia gone too far? Yes. Both of these problems only exist because both sides are radical extremists to their cause.

I think over the past few decades we’ve got used to our politicians resigning at the slightest hint of controversy but the days of politicians trying to please everyone (or more like trying not to offend anyone) are over. Voters want to hear politicians sharing their controversial views, provided of course that they agree with those views.
It’s divisive but at least it’s more honest.
