Swifties Spot Major Easter Egg in Taylor Swift’s Latest Announcement originally appeared on Parade.
Taylor Swift‘s 12th album may be closer than we think.
Eagle-eyed fans of the pop star noticed a potential easter egg in the singer’s open letter posted to her website Friday, May 30. While sharing the news that she bought back the rights to the master recordings of her first six albums following a years-long feud with Scooter Braun, Swift dropped a potential hint that her next album is near.
“I’m trying to gather my thoughts into something coherent, but right now my mind is a slideshow,” Swift wrote. “A flashback sequence of all the times I daydreamed about, wished for, and pined away for the chance to get to tell you this news. All the times I was thiiiiiiiiiiiis close, reaching out for it, only for it to fall through.”
Swifties quickly noticed that the word “this” featured twelve “i”‘s, a possible nod to her forthcoming 12th album.
One fan wrote on X, “SUDDENLY LIFE IS WORTH LIVING TS12 TRUTHERS RISE” and another said “goodbye rep tv, hello ts12.”
Some are even theorizing that the “TS” letterhead at the top of the announcement could be the new album’s logo.
This isn’t the first time fans have spotted a potential 12th album clue. At the Grammys in February, Swift wore earrings with exactly 12 jewels. More recently, Taylor showed support for Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s album, I Said I Love You First, with a message also featuring 12 letters in one of its words.
“I LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH,” Taylor wrote on Instagram March 22. “OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDD.”
The singer has long kept fan on their toes with easter eggs, often hinting at new releases several years before they’re slated to come out.
“All I started thinking about was ‘how do I hint at things?” Taylor told Jimmy Fallon in a 2021 interview on The Tonight Show. “‘How far is too far in advance? Can I hint at something three years in advance? Can I even plan things out that far?’ I think I’m gonna try to do it.”
Though Swifties have made accurate predictions using easter eggs before, like when they figured out Lover’s release date, sometimes – they’re completely off base.
Just recently, there was widespread speculation that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) would drop after the American Music Awards (AMAs) on Monday, May 26, but Swift just admitted she hasn’t even recorded “a quarter of it.”
Only time will tell if the Swifties are right this time.
