Theres been some videos made by AI floating around on how realistic it is now and that it will be used in politics and here we are. If this is allowed to continue along with all the interference the UK is going to get when we have our next election I dont think our election is going to be legitimate.

Channel Four made a special on realistic deep fakes videos right before the general election, they were realistic a year ago and they are just getting eerily life like now.
Why would you need to use AI to paste a fake subtitle? Are they honestly too thick to use photoshop?

Luckily, there are markers in a media that reveal whether or not it was AI-generated. Governments must legally mandate that all websites algorithmically determine and inform their users when a piece of media on their feed is AI-generated.
Serious false content like this used to discredit or injure someones reputation should be legislated under defamation laws as well as psychological abuse or harassment.
And so it begins…..the new age of edited videos used by politicians to either gain support or create tension.
Do I have this correct from the article? The false accusation was viewed 100,000 times before being deleted, but the clarification that it’s been deleted as it’s a fake video has only been viewed 600 times as of the time the article was published?

Generative AI was a huge mistake. The amount of disruption that this technology is doing is practically scary.
True or false, the damage is done. And that’s how they’re going to win the next election – spread misinformation so millions can see it, delete the posts when called out on it, issue “apologies” that no bugger will pay attention to, and repeat the process to keep manufacturing outrage. People will vote based on their anger, and we’ll be living in a fascist state.
Hopefully, our courts won’t end up bending the knee to this cunt when he tries to pull some blatantly illegal shit.

I reckon that to safeguard democracy in an age of generative AI and increasingly “post truth” politics, it needs to be full on illegal to outright lie like this tbh. Obviously there are areas which are unclear, areas which are disagreements in opinion etc. But there are objective facts of reality: fabricating evidence to accuse your opponents of things that never happened, brazenly lying to the electorate about objective facts etc should earn you a swift and stern rebuke. I’m thinking something truly draconian like just outright a ten year ban on entering office or speaking on politics all together. It must be treated very, very strictly.
Our current political class would be decimated by the amount of politicians who’d be banished from politics by the end of the first year – but that’d also probably be a good thing for our society in that long run.
